Who is Edgar Allan Poe?

You will use this website to answer the following questions.  It will open in another window, so you can see the website and these questions on this wiki page.  Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper and be ready to turn it in for points at the end of the period.

1.  Go to Poe's "Biography" section and SKIM through his life's story (Do NOT read every word, skim, or you will not finish this webquest).  Write three "tragedies" Poe encountered in his lifetime.

2.  Go to the "Summaries" section.  Read 4-5 different summaries (Do NOT read the first four, but skip around to get a better overview of Poe's stories).  What TYPE of story does Poe write, generally (for example, fairytale?)

3.  Pick ONE of the summaries that seems like it is suspenseful.  Go to the "Stories" section.  Find the story you chose.

• Read the first several paragraphs (about 100 words or one screen without scrolling down)
• How would you describe Poe's style of writing? (Describe the types of words he uses, the types of sentences, the types of characters, the mood he creates, etc.)

4.  What is an object that would symbolize (or represent) Poe and his work well?  Explain why.
